Christmas Valley

A peaceful place this Christmas Valley,

A place with many a sagebrush alley.

You will see no end to this lovely valley,

If each sagebrush you try to tally.

A place of nature and man made lake,

A piece of sentiment for us to take.

A restful atmosphere where one can wait,

No thoughts of ever being late.

The desert here is still intact,

All kinds of Indian Artifact.

Wild horses, coyotes and bobcat,

The rarest of beauties, it is a fact.

Sunrises, sunsets for all to share,

The change in skies are not so rare.

Colors mixing everywhere,

They soon disperse in deserts air.

When the skies are filled with geese,

Their honks and calls give inner peace.

As they glide in on the lakes with ease.

Will nature's wonders ever cease?

Yes, Christmas Valley is a restful place,

Lying here in splendid grace.

Movement here at a snails pace,

Gives a look of contentment on each ones face.

Gifts From This Desert

Gifts from this desert are really quite rare,
The most precious of all is the desert air.
New colors each day, a gift from Heaven,
Sunrises, sunsets of which there are seven.

The sage in bloom and lots of room,
And mirages that show till the close of noon.
This desert is freshened by quick rain showers,
Then a fragrant gift spray from all of its flowers.

And Indian Paintbrush to wild Hollyhocks,
All kinds of flowers this desert unlocks.
Arrowheads that are polished by shifting sands,
Find their way as gifts, into man's hands.

From nowhere a "Dust Devil" a desert lovers fancy,
Stings a herd of antelope and sends them prancing.
A yell is a gift to all from a deserts black crow,
As he flies overhead and puts on quite a show.

A hoot through the night of a desert owl,
Sends a gift of the shivers, and a coyote howl.
Rain can come down by buckets or tubs,
And spread this desert with many flash floods.

Old wagon ruts from the distant past,
A gift still holding desert lovers minds fast.
The Crack-in-the-Ground, a gift for all tourists,
Four Craters stand guard like a judge and three jurists.

To visit this desert is a must, is a tonic,
To all visitors here, it will seem ironic.

Desert Rose

A gift from heaven to behold,

a treasure in your hand to hold.

And when the desert air is cold,

this little rose will unfold.

And fills the air with smells of spice,

the touch of it feels so nice.

It lasts until it's fringed with ice,

a treat to see it more than twice.

Lying here upon the sand,

It is this desert's finest brand.

And looking, looking oh so grand!

It sends its fragrance throughout this land.

For this rose there is no contest,

It's on show at our bequest.

It blooms and blooms it's very best,

Then softly closes up to rest.
